Unit 25: Sport as a Business

Legal and financial influences on a sporting business
Introduction:
Opening a sport based business is a very serious, we are not talking about Macviktors or Kf-
Vik but about sports business opening a gym called (B.M.W.V) Blast Marathon With Viktor!
However, to open a gym like this I need to ask a bank for 250000 pounds. But before that, I
need to cover some of the legal influences that must be taken into the business and
requirements of opening a business. Which I will discuss in this report and show my
understanding of the legislative influences on the sports business and show the importance
and understanding of Cash- flow in order to get my dream business started.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) act (2002):
PPE act must be in all the workplaces as this is one of the biggest parts of the workforce.
without it there would be a lot of risks; hazards that could influence people which could
result in them getting hurt such using different types of chemicals without any gloves which
could cause them a chemical reaction which could burn their hand. So if PEE act was put in
place it could be prevented them from getting hurt.
This act was put in place for one reason which is to protect employers from the danger that
is around them in working in the workplace. The act was made in 1992 but been updated in
2002 as work place’s change and people tend to use different things in the workplace their
for its been updated so it can be put in place so that the act is still reliable in new
workplaces as well. For example, when using highly toxic chemical you are required to wear
gloves. When the in workplace this could be when putting some chemical on the machines
or cleaning something that requires removed, could be bleach you will require to have
contact with this product and if it gets in contact with your hand it may have a chemical
reaction and burn your hand which will result in you not working as you are injured. So the
act was put in place to prevent this from happening again and it is people the responsibility
to wear PPE when using toxic substances, to prevent incidents from happening.
For example, if there was no act like that you may be that day you are using chemicals to
deep clean and without any gloves, you would end up maybe getting a chemical reaction
and getting ill or burn your hands, which later will prevent you from working and causing
health problems and this would injure you. So thanks to this act people follow the act which
prevents them from getting this problem because they will use personal protective
equipment such as gloves and other equipment that helps them prevent all risks and
hazards. The workplaces need to have these types of equipment provided as it is part of the
act because then employers can sue the company encase anything.
Another one could be showing others what to do in fitness classes trying to demonstrate but
end up struggling as you will be restricted to what you can do in the clothes you are in also
maybe slip as the shoes don’t have any grip, therefore, you could injure yourself and end up
hurting your self in the workplace. So, the act is put in place in order to prevent things like
this from happening as you are required to wear appropriate sports clothes in the gym.
