P1: Compare the principles of website design used in two websites,
including their suitability for the intended audience and the intended
purpose:

Introduction:
In this report I will be comparing two e-commerce websites which I will then be producing my
own website based on the two websites which I have compared to each other. The websites
which I am going to compare are Wish and Alibaba. Both e commerce websites are selling
related items for a comparable price, however they have different interfaces and layouts and
other principles which I will be explaining in this report.

What are the principles of a website?
Principles of a website are rules and regulations which are made to increase customer
satisfaction and lead them into purchasing something. If a website lacks in its principles,
there is a less of a chance that a customer will want to purchase something from your
website instead they may go to a competitor's website and buy the product they are
interested in from them. Examples of principles are as follows: White space, Response time,
Load time (included in user experience), Navigation, Accessibility, User interface, Simplicity
and many more which I will be explaining within this report.

User Interface:
The user interface for the Ali Baba website is much better than the website which Wish has.
The first reason that the Ali Baba website is better is because it has a much more modern
design and layout. The search bar for the Ali baba is placed directly in the middle of the
website on the right-hand side which is the first thing that attracts the customer's attention,
which would lead the customer to search for the specific item they want with ease. Another
reason is that the Ali baba website has information about the company itself which lets the
users who visit the website know in what sectors they operate the services they provide.
This gives the customer excellent user experience and gives them a feeling of safety
knowing Ali Baba is a trustable and well-established business. Another positive about the
user interface is when a user searches for a product for example “T-Shirts,” there is an
excellent user interface as every product is organized perfectly with the picture of the
product clear and the price below the product which also has the supplier's name at the
bottom of each product. Another reason on why the interface on Alibaba is excellent is when
a user searches a product, they can filter the product for example if they want the price from
highest to lowest or a particular color of the product they want, they can change the filters
which would allow them to see the products which match their preferences.

,On the other hand, on the user interface on the wish website is extremely poor compared to
the Ali Baba website. This is because the wish website does not have a homepage like Ali
Baba does. This means that users cannot see the information about the company wish itself
and also does not appeal the customer to purchase any product of wish. Another reason
why the user interface on the wish website poor is because the wish website does not have
the filter section on the webpage when they search for a product which means they would
have to scroll through the page till they find product which catches their attention. However,
the layout of the products when a user searches for an item is like Ali Baba as they are both
laid out in a similar manner, but wish doesn’t say the suppliers name under the product like
Ali Baba does.
Overall, for the user interface, the Ali baba website is far better than the wish website in this
principle as it includes certain details which the wish website does not.

Whitespace:
Whitespace on a website is the part of the website which is left blank with nothing in it. This
is a crucial part to creating a website as it makes the website looks neat and tidy which helps
when a user is trying to find a product whereas if a website is lacking whitespace, there is a
less chance that a user carries on using the website. This is because the user may feel the
website is difficult to use and everything is in their face which is a negative factor for a
website.
In this instance, the Ali Baba website lacks in whitespace when compared to the wish
website. This is because on the homepage there is no white space at all and when a user
searches for a product there is a lack of white space too. The webpage for when a user
searches for a product contains barely any webpage since the whole webpage is covered
with either pictures or information which could be moved somewhere else in the website’s
layout for a better whitespace ratio. The lack of whitespace on the Ali Baba website may
make a user feel like everything is in their face which may lead to them getting confused and
clicking off the website and going to a different website. This is something which makes the
Ali Baba website less appealing for customers to search for a product on.

, However, the whitespace on the Wish website is excellent. This is because the products are
laid out in a certain manner towards the middle of the webpage which leaves the rest of the
webpage available for whitespace. This does not confuse the user and is comfortable to their
eyes when they are searching for a product. This also makes the webpage look neat and
tidy which gives the user a positive user experience on the website and will want them to
return to the website if they ever want to purchase another product from an e-commerce
website. This would also make the user go on to

In this case, the wish website has a better amount of whitespace which makes the user feel
comfortable when they are searching through the website for a product instead of having
everything which is on the webpage in their face.

Navigation:

Navigation is one of the most important most important features which need to be taken into
consideration when developing a website. Navigation on a website means how easy it is for
a user to navigate from one webpage to another which is crucial because if a user does not
know how to navigate through the website they would not want to use your website any
longer and will go to a competitors website.

In my opinion, the Ali Baba website is similar compared to wish in the navigation principle.
This is because when you go onto the homepage of Ali Baba there is a search bar which
appears in the middle of the webpage which lets a user search the product they want quickly
and efficiently without waiting. Another brilliant reason is if a user wants to see which
products sell more and what products other customers are more interested in, Ali Baba have
a frequently searched section under the search bar which lets the user see what the most
frequent searches other users are make. Another reason why the navigation on the Ali baba
is far better is because when a user is on a products webpage they can filter their product if
they want anything specific and if they want to find a certain product but do not know what
that product is called they can go on the top left hand side of the Ali Baba website which they
will then see a drop down menu which says categories which can help them find the product
