2. Reflect on the recent state of affairs and possible improvements in psychological clinical
practice by use of affective science.

psychopathology, yet also come with potential challenges.

Summarize in what form affect and its regulation might be disrupted in psychopathological
processes

Affective science:
- Een studie die al lang bestaat (Charles Darwin)
- In vergelijking met “cognitieve wetenschap”, wordt “affective science” als term bijna nooit
gebruikt
 Cognitie is veel makkelijker om te bestuderen vergeleken met affect

Affect: Het evalueren van een situatie als salient en dus een trigger voor evolutionare adaptieve
reactie
Dit bestaat uit verschillende elementen:
- Subjectieve componenten (negatief/positief gevoel)
- Gedragscomponenten (motorische expressie of inclination)
- Fysiologische componenten (hersenen/lichaam)




 De situatie grijpt de aandacht, vervolgens is er “appraisal” van de situatie wat leidt tot een
reactie




 Je kan emoties reguleren op verschillende momenten
 Situatie selectie: Ik was zo zenuwachtig voor het college, dat ik me ziek heb gemeld
 Situatie modificatie: College online volgen
 Attentional deployment: Je aandacht sturen, om je emoties te reguleren (jezelf afleiden)
 Cognitive change: Reappraisal, de situatie op een andere manier interpreteren (je leert
ervan, dit is daarom goed)
 Response modulation: Je merkt je emotionele reactie, je probeert deze direct aan te
passen (je merkt dat je paniekerig wordt, dus je past ademtechnieken toe)

, Event focus: Hoeveel benefective response getriggert wordt door een event.
Embodiment: Hoe sterk is de fysiologische reactie is
Affective dispositions: Bijvoorbeeld trait anxiety, je hebt een algemene neiging om op een bepaalde
manier te gedragen
 Dit is meer een eigenschap die je altijd hebt, ook wanneer je slaapt etc.

Affective symptoms in psychopathologie:
Dit staat centraal in affectieve disorders (depressie, bipolair, anxiety etc.)
- Dit is het meest voorkomend in de psychopathologie
- Hebben dus een grote impact op onze samenleving
Affective disturbance is aanwezig in bijna alle psychologische stoornis (naast affectieve disorders)
- Anti-social persoonlijkheidsstoornig (veel ongereguleerde agressie)
- Schizofrenie (anxiety, paranoia, agressie)
- ADHD (emotie regulatie)
- Borderline (mood swings, emotie regulatie)
- PTSD
- Verslaving (hoge gevoeligheid voor beloning)
- Autisme (sociale emotionele aanwijzingen)

Categorieën van affective disturbances:
Emotional reactivity problems:
- Emotional intensity (over- or underreactions)
- Emotional duration (too short or long)
- Emotional frequency (too little or frequent)
- Emotion type (inappropriate)
 Vrolijk zijn op een begrafenis (schizofrenie bv. )

Emotion regulation problems: (Het reguleren van de emotie)
- Awareness (Over or under)
 Te veel bewustzijn bij een paniekstoornis
- Goals (excessive dampening or searching for the peak)
 Reguleert emoties wel, maar met een verkeerd doel achter de hand, zoals het zoeken naar
een piek, zorgt voor een slechte coping
- Strategies (Overuse or wrong implementation)
 Vermijding, te veel hiervan zorgt uiteindelijk voor een negatieve uitkomst
