Three Components of Compressive Refrigeration System - ✔✔3 Components of
Compressive Refrigeration:

1. The Compressor - receives refrigerant as a gas and compresses it., turning it into a liquid.

2. The Condenser - Receives the liquid, and releases the latent heat to the outside air. Fans
blow over the condenser taking the heat off and blowing it outside.

3. The Evaporator - Liquid refrigerant leaves the condenser and flows to the evaporator where
it draws heat from the surrounding area and expands becoming a gas. It then flows to the
compressor and the process starts over again. Air blows over the evaporator coils, warmth is
drawn out of the air and blown back into the room at a much cooler temperature.

,Refrigeration by Absorption - ✔✔A type of refrigeration process that is not compressive
refrigeration. They are most often used when waste heat is available for energy input to
the generator part of the system.

1. A salt solution draws water vapor from the evaporator.

2. As it absorbs water it is diluted and must be regenerated by boiling off the water. This is
most often done with steam or high temperature water.

3. The water that is boiled off in the generator is returned to a liquid state in the condenser
and then returned to the evaporator.

4. Both the condenser and the absorber receive the condensing water, which removes the
waste heat

Evaporative Cooling - ✔✔Water is dropped over pads or fin tubes through which outdoor air
or water is circulated. As the free water evaporates into vapor, heat is drawn from the air or
water that is circulating. The cool air is then distributed to the indoor spaces.

It only works in HOT-ARID climates, where the outdoor air has a low enough humidity level to
allow the moistened air to evaporate.

HVAC Systems - ✔✔Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

, They are categorized by the medium that is used to heat or cool a building - air or water. Some
use both. Electricity can also be used

Direct Expansion Systems - ✔✔Simplest type of HVAC system. Often wall mounted units.

It is a self-contained unit that passes non-ducted air over an evaporator, which cool the air
and the discharges it to the room.

Ventilation comes directly from the outside.

1/3 - 2 ton capacity - enough for 1 or a few rooms at 2 ton.

All Air Systems - ✔✔An HVAC system that cools or heats a space using conditioned air alone.

Heat or cool air is transported to and from the space through supply and return air ducts.

Air is heated or cooled in a central furnace or air conditioner and distributed throughout the
building.

It cannot be zoned but can be controlled by dampers in each room.
