DQ 1

Reflect on your time in the classroom as an elementary age student. Which classes were you most
engaged in and why? How did your level of engagement connect to your performance in the course?

As an elementary aged student, the classrooms that I was most engaged in were art and music. Art class
allowed me to express my emotions and make connections from different objects. In a good mood a
circle represented the sun, squares and triangles represented my house along with fat lines for grass and
thin lines for flower stems with hearts for petals. If in a bad mood jagged lines for lightening and
teardrops for raindrops. Art class me to express what I was feeling and what was in my head. In music
class I could also express my feelings. Different moods brought about different types of music, sadness
brought more of a melancholy song while happiness brought an upbeat and lighthearted song. Both of
these were a hands-on class where you were active in the class and could share your emotions.

DQ 2

How does a well-managed classroom foster respect between the students and the teacher? Provide
one example of the teacher’s role and one example of the student role in establishing and maintaining
a well-managed classroom.

A well-managed classroom can foster respect between students and the teacher by keeping the
students always engages in the learning process. More creative teaching methods will capture the
student’s attention and allow them to focus. Always having clear expectations with all lessons. The
teacher’s role is planning, organizing procedures, arranging the classroom environment for efficiency,
monitoring students’ progress, and anticipating potential problems. The students’ role in establishing
and maintaining a well-organized classroom is to stay focused, being engaged, asking questions for
clarification, and be present. When both connect, lessons are learned, and prior knowledge retrieved. It
takes the teacher to engage in the learning process and be creative and the student learn and
remember.
