, The main ethical conflict that I am concerned with is Qualm being called to testify by the
defense and give his opinion to help save Beastly. However, Qualm is only an expert on the
prediction of dangerousness. By Qualm not being an expert on mental illness he should not be
able to testify on Beastly’s behalf. Although Qualm could be called to testify who is to say that
the truth will be told. However, his testimony could help the defendant but at the same time it
could be detrimental to the defendant also. There could also be biases that could occur from the
testimony of Qualm, and it could affect the outcome of the trial.
The APA Code of Ethics is a written law that discusses the intent, organization,
procedural considerations, and scope of application of the Ethics Code. Principle 1: Beneficence
and Nonmaleficence, to treat humans with respect, dignity, and care for their wellbeing.
Principle
2: Fidelity and Responsibility refers to psychology professionals being aware of all possible
outcomes, but, yet still have respect for their clients wishes and trust. Principle 3: Integrity refers
to psychology professionals being transparent about their analyses, conclusions, and possible
threats that might put the client in a bad situation. Principle 4: Autonomy refers to clients
allowing themselves to make their own moral and rational decisions. Principle 5: Respect, this
refers to a psychology professional keeping their client’s information sealed from others, this is
also known as privacy and confidentiality (APA, 2017).
In my case study Principle 2 Fidelity and Responsibility apply because Qualm is not an
expert on rape and murder but is willing to testify on Beastly’s behalf without the knowledge of
mental illness. Also, Principle 3 applies to my case study because again Qualm is not an expert in
