Volgens Davis zijn er meerdere aspecten die een wetenschappelijk theoretisch artikel
interessant maken:
• In order to be interesting, scholarship must stand out in some way. Een artikel die
volledig op een ander artikel lijkt, is niet interessant maar een herhaling. Terwijl een
artikel waarbij de conclusies in strijd zijn met veel andere theorie niet geloofwaardig
is.
• Scholars who wish to influence an audience must read that audience in much the same
way that the audience reads a scholary work.

Haimowitz en Hurley publiceren werk van hun leden.

• Volgens Haimowitz is er een verschil tussen wat studies en de rest van de wereld
interessant vinden
• Tijdigheid is volgens hem een belangrijke factor. Dit is een lastige, omdat er een lange
tijd tussen kan zitten tussen het moment dat een onderwerp interessant wordt en het
moment dat het gepubliceerd wordt.
• Vooral bevindingen worden interessant gevonden. Artikels waarin enkel progressie
wordt beschreven is minder interessant volgens de media.
• De media vindt namen belangrijk.
• Sommige onderwerpen blijven het goed doen in de media, zoals seks.
