How to write an introduction – (sentence by sentence analysis).
One easy to way to write the introduction for an argumentative essay is to write about three
sentences: two sentence representing the topic and one sentence as thesis. You can write either
Situation or Opinion in introduction.
Situation Introduction: Write two sentences to describe the two sides of the present situation. The
third sentence – the Thesis sentence will describe what you are going to do in your essay or you
can state your view in the concluding paragraph, after discussing both viewpoints.
Qn.1: Everywhere, the number of the elderly persons is on the increase. Who should take care of the
elderly?
Sent. 1: Traditionally, in our country, the young have been looking after the elderly. Sent. 2: But now,
many young people do not take care of their parents. Sent. 3: This essay will describe some of the
issues, involved in the care of the elderly, and will look into the question, who should be held
responsible.
Opinion Introduction: In this kind of introduction, it is better you give two opposite opinions in the
first two sentences. The third sentence says which opinion you are going to support.
Qn.1: Many countries spend huge amount of money on space research. Does space exploration
benefit mankind?
For: Many people believe that space exploration, although it is very expensive, brings many benefits.
Against: However, others feel it is a massive waste of money as it is not the priority of a nation.
(Thesis): This essay deals with some arguments for and some against space exploration and then it
will state that research on space will enrich a nation.
