The Court - Answer-1. Net- 5 feet high at center; 5 feet 1 inch at post

Starting the Game - Answer-1. Opposing sides toss; winner has the option of:
a) serving first
b) not serving first
c) choosing ends
2. Side losing toss has choice of remaining options

Scoring - Answer-1. Doubles and men's singles- 15 points
2. Women's singles- 11 points
3. A game of 21 points may be arranged in doubles and men's singles

Changing Ends - Answer-1. Sides contest best 2 of 3 games usually,
2. Sides change ends at the beginning of game 2 and game 3 if necessary; also occurs
in game 3 when leading score reaches:
a) 8 in 15 point game
b) 6 in 11 point game
c) 11 in 21 point game

Setting - Answer--Setting is the process of extending score to win tied games; player or
side reaching tied score first has option of setting:
a) In 15 point game, 13 all set to 5, 14 all set to 3
b) In 11 point game, 9 all set to 3, 10 all set to 2
c) In 21 point game, 19 all set to 5, 20 all set to 3
-Decision to set must be made before the next service after score has been tied.
Side rejecting option may not be barred from setting if a second opportunity occurs.

Faults - Answer-1. Striking shuttle higher than waist at point of contact.
2. Head of racket above hand at point of contact
3. Shuttle falling in wrong service court, short, or out of bounds
4. Feet of server and receiver not in service court until service is delivered
5. Player feints or balks opponent (cheating)
6. Shuttle struck before crossing the net
7. Player touches net when shuttle is "in play"
8. Shuttle is thrown
9. Player hit by shuttle when standing out of bounds

Double Play - Answer-1. There are 2 sides:

, a) "in" side (serving side)
b) "out" side (receiving side)
2. One player of side beginning game is entitled to serve in its first innings; in all
subsequent innings each partner has right to serve
3. Player in right-hand service court of side winning toss begins game serving to
diagonally opposite
4. If player served to put shuttle in play, it will be hit alternately by each side unit a fault
is made or shuttle ceases to be in play.
5. If point is scored, server moves to left court and continues as long as points are
scored. Process continues.
6. If fault is made by "in" side, right to continue serving is lost, serve goes to partner or
to other side.
7. The player diagonal from server must receive the serve. If receive partner plays or hit
served shuttle, a point for "in" side is made.
8. If player serves out of turn or from wrong service court, a Let is called before the next
serve.
9. If player of receiving side is standing in wrong service court, a Let is called.

Singles Play - Answer-1. Player winning toss begins play in right service court.
2. If opponent puts shuttle in play, hit alternatively by each player until fault is made or
shuttle ceases to be in play.
3. Players serve and receive in the right court only when score is 0 or even; in the left
service court when the score is odd.
4. Both players change service courts after each point has been scored.

High Strokes - Answer-Underhand and overhead, defensive and offensive. A defense
clear is sent high and deep into opponent's court which is short of the base line

Offensive Clear - Answer-used when the opponent is moving towards the net .

Dropshot - Answer-The drop shot causes the shuttle to drop steeply and close to the net
in the opponent's forecourt. A finesse shot with the slowest flight of any basic shot.

Smash - Answer-The smash is a powerful overhead stroke that directs the shuttle
downward; it is the point-winning shot.

Drive - Answer-A shot used in doubles against a front and back system which is hit
down the center-line in the mid court area.

Net Shot - Answer-This shot takes place between the short service line and the net
which crosses the net very close to the tape.

Formation for Doubles - Answer-1. Front and Back- One player is up front in the
forecourt and one player is in the back court.
2. Side by Side- Each player is side by side on the mid-court area.
3. Combination- Formation that uses both front and back and side by side.
