Introduction
In this scenario, Ana is 24 years of age. Her husband is deployed, she has lost her job,
and has an infant child. In this scenario, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will be the best to fit
Anna’s needs. This type of therapy will help her regulate her emotions along with giving her
some techniques to overcome the fear and anxiety that is playing in her head. The goal of this
therapy is to help Anna to feel more confident in her ability to function without incessant fear
and worry.
Goals of Counseling
The objective for Anna should be to help her deal with stresses in her life, such as losing her
job, her husband being overseas, being estranged from her family, and having a young child to
raise all by herself. Due to Anna’s situation, she is experiencing severe depression and she is not
getting proper sleep because of it. Her mind is going nonstop. When your body is not getting
enough sleep and there is significant stress, the body can go into fight or flight mode, which is
essentially a survival mode (Hays, 2009). A counselor providing proper therapy will help Ana to
overcome the difficulties she is facing.
Strategies
In this case, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy would be the most beneficial. There are several
techniques that can be used to help Ana’s specific difficulties. Free association is one such
technique, where the counselor encourages open space and allows Ana to speak freely.
