What does the Academic path entail? - answerThe Academic Path is designed for the
traditional academic graduate. The steps include:
1. Completion of Bachelor degree or higher with concentration in Recreational
Therapy(Therapeutic Recreation)
2. Completion of a minimum 14 week / 560 hour internship supervised by a CTRS
3. Successful completion of the NCTRC Certification Exam

Who is the Equivalency path designed for? - answerEquivalency paths are designed for
applicants who have accomplished extensive work in RT in combination with designated
coursework to meet the NCTRC Certification Standards.

What does the Equivalency path A entail? - answerPATH A: 18hrs, (5) TR courses 1-
3hr REC, 24 hrs Human service courses 5 years full-time TR type work $
1. Completion of a Bachelor degree or higher
2. Completion of specific coursework in Recreational Therapy (TherapeuticRecreation)
and related areas
3. Five (5) years full-time paid work experience
in Recreational Therapy (Therapeutic Recreation)
4. Successful completion of the NCTRC Certification Exam

What does the Equivalency path B entail? - answerPATH B: (5) TR courses 1-3hr REC,
A&P, Lifespan development, Abnormal Psych; 9hrs electives: human service area
(psych, SPED, MED terminology); 1yr internship.

What is the format of the NCTRC CTRS examination and what are the benefits of this
format? - answerComputer- based Mastery Testing (CMT) format: a variable-length
examination. CMT allows you to mark for review latter and will display time remaining
on the screen.

Where is the NCTRC CTRS exam is given at? - answerPrometric Testing centers
across the US.

During the administration of the examination, each group of questions (testlets) are? -
answerTimed separately. The base test is completed by all candidates and consists of
90 questions for which you have a total of 86 minutes. Additional sections are called
"testlets", each containing 15 questions and lasting for 21 minutes.

During the exam does it allow the person taking the test to move back and forth? -
answerYou are permitted to move back and forth within the base test, but the base test
may not be reviewed once it has been exited.

When will you receive your score for the NCTRC exam? - answerImmediately results
upon completion of the base test of 90 questions, you will receive 129 minutes. (a) a
passing score ending the exam; (b) a failing score ending the exam; or (c) a score that
falls in a range that is neither failing nor passing and you will move to another section.
