, INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND / RATIONALE
My topic is the effects of the wealth inequality in South Africa, so this study will de
definitely about articulating the effects of the wealth inequality in South Africa. Initially the
gap between the rich and poor is increasing in the country ever since apartheid, this research
will be mainly based on what the gap between rich and poor has caused to the country and the
people themselves. Thus, this research will be discussing the results in the inequality of
wealthy, what it has done to the people , affected their mentality , the way they behave.

Also, when it comes to the statics, it is said in South Africa to the average of 60 million
people according to census 2015, 80% of those people only own only 20% of the land which
explains how the wealthy inequality is in the country. In that 20% of the land they own, 5% is
from the middle class , so already this shows how many people are becoming more poorer
ever since apartheid . The other 80% of the land is owned by the least 20% of the country,
that shows already this is going to have lot of impacts to the people and the country
leadership , mentality of the people and the future of the country. This 20% of people who
own this 80% are mostly white and many people who are poor in this country .(Acemoglu, D.
1998)

The diversity on campus to students affects the wealth inequality of students a lot. Thus, is
because students in campus are very competitive, and they easily affected by peer pressure
even though they should not be, for instance one students will see another student wearing
Nike brand new t-shirt , instead of just congratulating that student he/she will want that t-shirt
even him/her. So, by explaining it easily causes depression to students who affected by not
having enough wealth in their background’s homes, one student will start to think in a certain
way , behave in certain way because she /he feels like does not qualify to be like others.

So, this ends up affecting academic performance of a student as he/she cannot think in a
human being way, he is under pressure of being like other students .When it comes to racial
equity especially in different places, there is still a long way to go and to fix in this country,
this process of eliminating racial disparities and improving outcomes for everyone, is still
going to take a very long time in South Africa . The issue of inequality wealth has become a
global concern because of it has led to increase more poverty, in South Africa and other
countries.
