Definitie van neglect
“Decreased tendency to react to or search actively for stimuli in the part of space
contralateral tot he lesion, without the loss of sensory or motor functions which can explain
the behaviour.”
Neglect = verwaarlozing. Ons aandachtssysteem besteed onvoldoende mentale energie aan
een actie/buitenwereld. Dit kan alle modaliteiten zijn: motoriek, inkomen van informatie etc.
Neglect kan op allerlei manieren voorkomen.
Aandacht is de voorwaarde voor al onze cognitieve functies. Aandacht is de hoeveelheid
mentale energie die we in een activiteit kunnen steken. De aandachtstheorieën gaan
ervanuit dat we onze aandacht op iets/een taak/de buitenwereld kunnen richten. Aandacht
is gericht. Aandacht is ook te verdelen. Mensen kunnen 2 dingen tegelijkertijd doen. Dat
vrouwen beter hun aandacht kunnen verdelen, is een naïeve theorie. Mannen zijn beter in
navigeren, en vrouwen hebben een beter geheugen.
Vigilantie = heel langdurig je aandacht op een bepaald niveau kunnen houden. Een
voorbeeld is studeren of autorijden. Het brein besteed vooral z’n energie om aandacht op
een bepaald niveau te houden.
Aandacht is ook te verplaatsen. Het is een energetisch proces.
Neglect komt eigenlijk op alle domeinen voor.

- Other terms: (hemi-)inattention, halfsided neglect, hemineglect, visuo-spatial neglect,
visual neglect
Hemi = voor de helft. Er is dus maar voor de helft aandacht.
- Often no perceptual or recognition deficits, but hemianopia may co-occur
- Often co-occurence of other problems: anosognosia, allesthesia, extinction, hemi-
akinesia
Alles wordt door het brein gezien, maar omdat er te weinig aandacht is, heeft de ontvanger
het idee dat deze te weinig meemaakt. Je ziet dus bv wel alles, maar de aandacht is er niet
goed genoeg voor om dit ook daadwerkelijk waar te nemen.
Ons brein is aan de rechterkant dominant voor aandacht. Heel veel activiteit is in de rechter
hemisfeer in een hoog pariëtaal gebied. Als je in de rechter pariëtaal kwab schade loopt
(door bv een beroerte), zul je altijd aandachtsschade behouden.
