Steering
The system consists of :
4 engine-driven hydraulic pumps (one for each engine).
4 reservoirs
-2 electrical demand pumps (systems 2 &3)
- 2 Pneumatic demand pumps (systems 1 & 4)
- 2 electrical Auxiliary pumps (systems 1 & 4)
- 4 SOVs (one for each engine)
- Numerous Hydraulic actuators for primary and secondary flight controls and
the landing gear
, At what pressure does the hydraulic system operate?- ANSWER 3000 PSI
How does hydraulic SOV work? - ANSWER Manually by the engine fire
switch
What are Demand Pumps for? - ANSWER As the name suggests, demand
pumps will operate if the engine driven pumps fail or are under high demand
(such as when flaps extend or are already extended)
How does the Demand pumps work? - ANSWER Electrically for system 2 and
3 and pneumatically for system 1 and 4.
Which systems have Auxiliary pumps and what are they used for, primarily? -
ANSWER System 1 and 4.
Used on the ground with engines shut off for brakes and body gear steering.
They will also activate during engine start in order to supply more bleed air to
the engines being started.
What powers the auxiliary pumps? - ANSWER The ground handling bus
which in turn is only powered by APU GEN 1 or EXT POWER 1 (ON or
AVAIL).
During which conditions will the demand pump system fault light illuminate? -
ANSWER - Low pressure
- Overheat
