a) The value of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching
• Authentic materials mean written or spoken texts that were not written for language
teaching (The TEFL Academy, 2018). By utilizing authentic travel material, I found
that I added more enthusiasm to my activities and I can ensure genuine examples of
language that is used in everyday situations, not only for learning purposes found in
course books, which encourages them to build up a more extensive language base. It
is an approach to make my lesson fun and intriguing for the students as they are at
an age where they can travel and enjoy the world if they should choose to do so. By
making use of authentic reading materials I can provide information about a target
country or place to visit that I want to share with my students. My authentic reading
passage provides students with an association with this present reality, the more
lesson and activities gains authenticity.
b) Reasons for the selection of this text and the 12 vocabulary items
• Since I am managing with mixed nationality class of 15 advanced students, I have
picked this particular topic because it will be fascinating and energizing for students
who need to find out about the excellent and beautiful spot in the world so far as
that is concerned. I pick a travel article since I need to take students to an authentic
learning experience that prompts imagination, creativity, discovery, mindfulness,
and advancement in and outside the real world. A huge number of these students
already have a broad understanding of the country they currently live in therefore,
they will be confident and comfortable enough to discuss this topic. Additionally, the
exercises I have picked will improve student’s vocabulary, speaking and
pronunciation skills.
c) Why my activities would be appropriate for this class
• Travel is significant for everybody and it offers a lot to the young people of the
world. I figured it will be an enjoyment and rather fascinating for the mixed
nationality students who can become familiar with the subtle strategies on the
internet. The motivation behind why I picked this is that traveling is extremely
important for youth, it offers a variety of educational experiences, the activities will
improve their growing vocabulary and skills even further while also learning about
the world we live in. The students are aware of their won country’s culture and way
of living and this will generate their interests and make them feel more comfortable
