Levothyroxine (Synthroid) - Take it first thing in the morning, no food or meds. Do lab work, report
hyperthyroidism (tachycardia, weight loss, fever, high motor activity)



IV Initiation - Smallest and shortest catheter and apply warm compresses for 10 min. Don't try insertion

veins to prevent nerve damage



Lyme disease - Bull's eye rash, enlarged lymph nodes, fatigue, arthralgia, malaise, encephalopathy. The
mainstay treatment is antibiotics such as doxycycline.



Chest tube - Suction: no tidaling, gentle bubbling. Water seal: tidaling, intermittent bubbling. Drainage:
pink (serosanguineous), no tidaling, no bubbling.



GCS - 4 eyes, Jackson 5 (verbal response), Motor response (1-6)



Hirschsprung's disease - failure to pass meconium, constipation, abdominal distention, and poor
feeding. Ineffective peristalsis, complications, enterocolitis, and toxic megacolon.



Clozapine - atypical antipsychotic, regular blood work due to neutropenia (agrunolocytosis). It causes
weight gain, hypersalivation and myocarditis



Typical vs Atypical antipsychotics - Typical: more side effects, TD, restlessness, sexual problems,
sedation, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation.

Atypical: more withdrawal symptoms, headache, anxiety, muscle aches, agitation, skin abnormalities,
might cause metabolic syndrome

Both can cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome

fluphenazine if dystonia give benadryl

,ACE inhibitors - "PRIL" Captopril, Enalapril, Afosiopril



Antihypertensive. Blocks ACE in lungs from converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II (powerful
vasoconstrictor). Decreases BP, Decreased Aldosterone secretions, Sodium and fluid loss.



Check BP before giving (hypotension)



*Orthostatic Hypotension, nephrotoxic



Clonidine - alpha 2 receptor agonist for ADHD and hypertension



Nephrotoxic - Metformin

Aminoglycosides

IV Contrast

Sulfonamides

NSAIDs

Heavy metals

NSAID, vancomycin, ACE inhibitors, sulfa



Potassium - Do not chew, take with food and a glass of water, if it is encapsulated then break it and mix
it with apple sauce.

Do not give K IV push do it always with a line 10mEq/hr if peripheral 20mEq/hr if central line.

If elixir dilute with water



Breast cancer - Most commonly found in upper outer quadrant

,Cast dryness - Fiberglass takes 30 minutes to dry, plaster 2-3 days



Yellow fever vaccine - Contraindicated if severe egg allergy



Reye's syndrome - Caused by aspirin. Fever, profoundly impaired consciousness, and disordered hepatic
function. A liver biopsy is used to confirm the diagnosis of RS and the client may experience dangerously
high ammonia levels.



Theophylline - Causes fast heart rate, check the pulse. Give it with a full glass of water on an empty
stomach



Doxorubicin - Antineoplastic it causes neutropenia if fever then report HCP
