THE LAST SUPPER

The Last Supper

The Last Supper still stands today as one of Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous pieces and

is very significant to the history of Catholicism. The work itself is rather extensive, and da Vinci

had not worked on any work of this size before this, surpassing measurements of over fifteen feet

by twenty-nine feet (The Last Supper – by Leonardo Da Vinci, 2020). The significance within

the art lies in the style of the painting in the way da Vinci designed it. He used techniques

precisely to portray Jesus’ presence in the room by doing so in the picture. The painting shows

the men eating as the news of betrayal was given, breaking the heart of the other eleven

individuals would soon feel the wrath of Palestine. Only those who know what is soon to follow

can understand the significance of this wholesome piece before the madness ensued.

Leonardo da Vinci was not only well versed in art but also had a foot in the realm of

science, leaving his mark on both fields to this date. He prospered in what was considered the

“golden age among creativity” flourishing around other masterminds in his fields such as

Raphael and Michelangelo (Leonardo da Vinci, his Life and Artworks, 2020). Da Vinci was the

epitome of his time being known today as a “Renaissance Man” and prided himself in all forms

of art and craft that was popularized during the Renaissance. Works he picked up through his

mentors around him, such as; mechanics and architectural skills. Since fourteen, da Vinci had

mentors around him to guide him into becoming a man well diverse in multiple intelligences

(Leonardo da Vinci, his Life, and Artworks, 2020). By working on many other forms of valued

skills other than art, da Vinci’s intellect was so immense that those who know his works refer to

him as a genius.
