when it comes to stress and motivation. High levels of stress in employees and low motivation
have a direct impact on everyday productivity in any company. On-going employee motivation,
stress free work environments and positive working relationships between employees have a

To counter the high levels of stress by the maintenance personnel, the short-term
objectives selected were the “Breakout Zone”. In the personnel survey employees indicated that
they feel overburdened by the workload and that they do not believe that they have time to break
between jobs. Taking a break between these jobs will help them unwind and get mentally ready
for the next. Another short term measure for implementation is to offer cash rewards and paid
vacations for best performers. Instant rewards offer instant gratification to employees and this
will help employees dramatically reduce their stress levels (University of Phoenix, 2007).
The long-term objectives identified were stress management workshops and behavior
management. Stress management workshops will provide the employees with the chance to take
a break from their every day tasks, reflect on how they perform their jobs and find solutions to
address their individual work-related problems. The last measure to address short term solution is
offer behavioral counseling to employees. Employees will have individualized support to address
their problems. If employees feel they are given the opportunity to communicate their problems
in a safe environment, this will result in greater productivity and higher employee morale. High
levels of stress in employees have a direct impact on any company’s growth and bottom line.
Management must take proactive measures before any level of stress causes employees to feel
overburden, miss work or become unproductive (University of Phoenix, 2007).
