Leadership is a driving force for the success or failure of any business. Leadership skills
are a vast scope of traits and learned abilities that make a person a suitable leader in a given
situation. The leadership theory’s, Behavioral, Trait, and Contingency theory’s, all factor into
the next steps I would like to see in GameStop’s organization to support the changes needed. I
have researched and evaluated several leadership approaches and styles to come to these
proposed actions, I will first delve into the relevant research. Then proceed into suggested
actions, GameStop has a transactional and hierarchical leadership in place now across the
organization which hasn’t been successful. Considering the leaders in place at game stop and the
leaders we need at GameStop, I would like to explore and implement steps to having a more
transformative style of leadership displayed throughout the organization.
Exploring Leadership Styles
In Week 3, the three types of leadership styles that were discussed were transactional,
laissez-faire, and transformative. The most effective leadership style to facilitate the necessary
organizational change is transformational leadership. Staff members will be encouraged and
motivated to alter the current approach with this leadership style. Transactional leadership is a
situation-specific type of leadership that is less successful during periods of change. A laissez-
faire leadership style is one that is uninvolved and offers little guidance. In periods of change,
this leadership approach is ineffective.
In accordance with the Contingency theory, the factors for each leadership position may
vary based on location and other factors. The supported evidence in the Trait and Behavioral
theories suggests that we can find strong successful leaders if we focus on recruiting and training
for adaptability and relationship management. Transformational leadership is a style of
