Blocks stimulation of beta1-adrenergic Fatigue, weakness, bradycardia, heart failure, Digoxin, IV phenytoin, verapamil, amphetamine,
receptors. Does not usually affect beta2- pulmonary edema, erectile dysfunction epinephrine, theophylline, dopamine,
receptor sites. phenylephrine, clonidine

Abrupt withdrawal may precipitate life-
Monitor BP, ECG, and pulse frequently during Uncompensated HF, pulmonary edema, threatening arrhythmias, hypertension, or
dosage adjustment period and periodically cardiogenic shock, bradycardia or heart block myocardial ischemia. Advise patient to notify
throughout therapy. Monitor intake and output health care professional if slow pulse, difficulty
ratios and daily weights. Assess routinely for signs breathing, wheezing, cold hands and feet,
and symptoms of HF dizziness, light-headedness, confusion,
depression, rash, fever, sore throat, unusual
bleeding, or bruising occurs.
