Anatomie van de temporale kwabben
Onderverdelingen
- Brodmann’s gebieden: 20, 21, 22, 37, 38, 41 en 42.
- Temporale kwab kan op twee manieren verdeeld worden:
o Auditief (Brodmann’s gebieden 22, 41 en 42)
o Ventrale visuele stroom (Brodmann’s gebieden 20, 21, 37 en 38)
§ Ook wel inferotomperal cortex (TE)
- De temporale kwab bevat nogal veel cortex.
- Laterale spleet (‘fissure’) vormt de insula. De insula heeft de gustatory
cortex en de auditieve associatiecortex.
- Superior temporale sulcus (STS)
o Scheidt de superior en middelste temporale gyri van elkaar, en het
bevat ook veel neocortex.
- Mediaal temporaal gebied
o Limbische cortex
o Bevat de amygdala, uncus, hippocampus, en de fusiform gyrus.
o Fusiform gyrus en inferior temporale gyrus vormen ook onderdeel
van de laterale temporale cortex.
- TH en TF (zoals ene Economo die gebieden noemt)
o Zitten posterior.
o Ook wel parahippocampal gyrus genoemd.
- Temporal-parietal junction (TPJ)
o Corticaal gebied op de grens tussen de pariëtale en temporale
kwab.
o Zit een beetje aan het eind van de Sylvian fissure, met nog de
ventrale gebieden van de angular en supramarginale gyri.
o Vaak actief als mensen imaging-technieken gebruiken in hun
onderzoeken naar aandacht, geheugen, taal en sociale verwerking.
o TPJ lijkt relevant voor het maken van besluiten in een sociale
context.
Verbindingen van de temporale cortex
- Afferente projecties van het sensorische systeem (krijgt daar informatie van).
- Efferente projecties naar pariëtale en frontale gebieden, limbisch systeem en basale ganglia (dus daar lijken
signalen heen te gaan).
- Bij onderzoek naar aapjes: vijf typen verbindingen
1. Hiërarchisch sensorisch pad helpt met stimulus herkenning.
a. Die beginnen dan bijvoorbeeld in de primaire visuele of auditieve gebieden, en eindigen in de temporale
kwab.
2. Dorsaal auditief pad houdt zich bezig met het aansturen van bewegingen, rekening houdend met auditieve
informatie.
a. Mogelijk betrokken bij de ruimtelijke locatie opmerken van auditieve input.
b. Pad lijkt analoog aan een deel van het dorsale visuele pad.
