Ken jy die see ... Uys Krige
Opsomming
as “Meneer” aanspreek.
dood veroorsaak.
The fisherman is unhappy with the prospective fish buyer he
addresses as "Sir." He tells this "Sir" about the dangers fishermen face
daily in putting fresh fish on the table and then "Sir" complains that
the fish are expensive.
The poem can be seen as solitary speech where the fisherman
strikes up a conversation. There is also progression in the poem
where the sea is first described as calm and then changes to a sea
that causes people's deaths.
Boodskap:
staan. Man should never underestimate nature. It's more about
the interaction between fisherman who does know and buyer
who stands aloof.

Every human being must realize that life is expensive,
especially the life of a fisherman. The sea also signifies the
way in which life deals with man, sometimes calmly and
sometimes stormy. It's also about the disengagement of those
who aren't really part of the process. It's easy to complain
when you didn't have to struggle with something yourself.
The tone is morbid, sad and mournful due to the
sea giving and taking. The fishermen get fish
and an income from the sea, but the sea
sometimes takes the life of a fisherman in the
process. So the mood is also sad and unhappy
