Lab Report Format Expectations
Utilize college level grammar and professional formatting when completing this worksheet.
Submissions without proper formatting, all required photos or sufficient responses will be rejected. Pre-
lab Questions

1. The experiments in this lab cover the lymphatic system. Provide a brief overview of this system.
Include a discussion on the structures involved, its purpose and the cells involved. (Hint: Your
response should be 5-6 sentences.)
The circulatory system of a fetal pig consists of blood, the heart, and an extensive network of
blood vessels. This system's function of facilitating the efficient flow of blood and nutrients
throughout the body is similar to that of the human circulatory system. One important organ in
this system is the heart, which has four chambers: two upper chambers known as atria and two
lower chambers known as ventricles. The endocardium, a smooth tissue that lines the inside of
the heart, is held in place by a layer of solid, soft muscle. This anatomical configuration
promotes effective blood pumping and circulation, which supplies oxygen and nutrients to
different tissues and organs.

EXPERIMENT 1: EXAMINING THE MICROSCOPIC ANATOMY OF THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM
Introduction Questions

1. In this experiment, you will review slides containing cells from lymph nodes and from the
spleen. Describe the specific functions of these tissues. Are they similar or different? How?
The lymphatic system, lymph nodes, and spleen are essential organs for fluid homeostasis and
the immune response. Hubs for lymph fluid filtration or lymph nodes are formed by tactical
lymphatic veins. These nodes are critical for the body's ability to absorb and eliminate
pathogens, foreign objects, and cell debris in order to prevent illness. In contrast, the spleen is
situated in the upper left abdomen and is responsible for filtering blood. Rich in immune cells,
such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and lymphocytes, the spleen carries out the coordination
of the body's reaction to recognize and eliminate pathogens in the bloodstream.
