school name: Merryweather high school

You have different sections in this school. Different kind of groups where you can either
belong to or not:
- Jocks→ sportive students
- Country Clubbers → teenager from a rich family that belongs to a country club
- Idiot Savants → nerds
- Cheerleaders
- Human Waste
- Eurotrash → European exchange students

Melinda Sordino is the lead in this story. She has a bunch of ex-friends:
- The clan, the average girl Janes
- Nicole who now lounges with the Jocks comparing scars from the summer league
sports
- Ivy who floats between the suffering artists on one side of the aisle and the thespians
on the other. Melinda says: “she has enough personality to travel with two packs
- Jessica, which moved to Nevada, but she wasn’t big of a loss to Melinda because
she was mostly friends with Ivy.
- Rachel Bruin, she is Melinda’s ex-best friend. She suffered together with Melinda.
Taught Melinda how to swim and understood the problems from Melinda around
Melinda´ s parents. She also didn’t make any fun of Melinda’s bedroom. ( ze heet eig
rachelle?)

Rachel would be the only one that Melinda is dying to tell what really happened *

A random girl, who says she is new, has sat next to Melinda. She introduces herself as
Heather. She is from Ohio.

, First marking period

Melinda has these thoughts:

The first ten lies they tell you in high school:
1. We are here to help you
2. You will always have enough time to get to your class before the bell rings
3. The dress code will be enforced
4. no smoking is allowed on school grounds
5. our football team will win the championship this year
6. we expect more of you here
7. Guidance counselors are always available to listen
8. your schedule was created with your needs in mind
9. Your locked combination is private
10. These will be the years you look back on fondly

Melinda calls her English Teacher Hair woman because she has uncombed stringy hair that
has a length till her shoulders. Her hair is black till her ears, her ends are orange. Her
Teacher wants that every student writes in our class Journal everyday, and that she
promises not to read it. Melinda writes about how weird she is.

Melinda’s social Teacher is called Mr. Neck. Melinda didn’t take a lunchbox with her so she
could give a good impression to the others. Lunchboxes give the impression of a
overinvolved mother. She got her lunch, followed a basketball student but he made a wrong
movement and Melinda’s whole tray scoops over her outfit. The basketballer tries to
apologize, but the whole cafeteria is laughing. Melinda can't read lips and runs away. She
thinks she will be forever known as “that girl who got nailed (hit by) by potatoes the first
day”. She got a demerit (strafpunten) for wandering in the halls without asking (permission).
What he didn’t know is that she wanted to go home and change but he acted like he didn’t
see the stains on her clothes.

She lives in the fifth biggest city in New York State, Syracuse. Her art teacher is called Mr.
Freeman, Melina thinks he’s ugly with a big old grasshopper body (sprinkhaan lichaam) Mr.
Freeman said to open the very first Art lesson: “Welcome to the only class that will teach you
how to survive”. He also writes down the board, Soul. He says, this is where you can find
your soul if you dare. Where you can touch the part of you that you've never dared to look at
before. “If you never learn how to do art now, you will never breathe” Because you can put
emotion in art, and feel strong feelings and that isn’t something you can do with numbers like
algebra. Mr. Freeman gives a job that everyone has to finish before the end of the year. He
wrote objects on pieces of paper and putted in a half globe * . Each of the students has to
pick a piece of paper and must create it in any way possible with emotion so the object
speaks at the end of the year to everyone that looks at it. Melinda thinks it is too much fun
