Fashions are started in 3 ways:
1. Trickle down Introduced by top designers-often haute countries.

Used to emphasize and alter a women’s shape to create a flattering

Style Refers to specific characteristics that make one product different from
another.

Classics Timeless styles that are always seen as tasteful
Simple lines and everyone looks good in it.
Characteristics: simple, remain popular, considered good taste, worn
over a long period of time, suitable for most people.
Fads Style that catches on and disappears quickly and accepted by small
(short lifespan) group of people.
Poorly designed, easily available and extreme.
Teens mainly accept fads.
Normally last one season.
Haute Couture New style created by fashion designers when they create exclusive
(High Fashion) original designs.
Different to ordinary fashion it is: expensive because of its unique
style, not mass produced, style and ideas differ to existing garments,
becomes fashionable when masses accept it.
Trends Fashion is not static it is always changing.
Changes can be drastic (skirts lengths) or mostly subtle (skirts move
from tight to loose fitting).
Contempory fashion trends for young adults:
Fashion and clothing are an expression of personal style.
Young adults are moving away from the confines of childhood where
parents make all decisions and start to express independence.
