• Your professional brand helps you stand out from other job applicants
• This chapter helps develop your professional brand and communicate it through your social media
presence, your resumes and cover letters, and your job interviews.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE 12.1
How do you polish your professional presence for a job search?
Teaching Tip: Ask each student to identify three careers goals, three strengths, and three skills, then in
groups of two or three ask students to discuss whether their skills and strengths are natural leads to
their career goals.
Examine your career goals, strengths, and skills (Exercises 1 and 2)
• See FIGURE 12.1 on how to create a list of your sellable qualities, weaknesses, areas of expertise, and
experiences
• Update this list frequently
Define your brand message and create strategic social media content (Exercises 3, 4 and 5)
• Create a consistent, memorable brand image by using the same professional photograph on all your
social media sites and link these sites to each other.
• Post content that projects positive image, generates interest, and includes valuable information.
• Review content created by others about you.

Compose customized resume content (Exercises 7, 8, 10, and 13)
• Tailor your resume to meet the needs of the employer d of the company that you want to work for.
• Develop multiple resumes for different jobs, if necessary.
• Ensure that your resume is honest.
Compose persuasive cover letters (Exercises 11 and 12)
• Use the ID model from chapter 8 to sell your yourself to an employer.
• Ensure the cover letter demonstrates that you re great fit for the job as well as for the company that you
want to work for.

Evaluate your content and design (Exercise 9 and 13)
• Ensure your content clear, complete, and concise
• Use keywords from the job posting
• Edit and proofread the resumes

• Get feedback on your resume from others

• Contact the employer about five days after submitting your job application
