Analogies are away to help us remember a series of steps in a process. Protein synthesis is a
complicated process involving nucleic acids, amino acids, and several cell structures. We can use a
familiar process to make an analogy to remember these steps. The analogy should have something in
common with the process of protein synthesis based on function. For example: we might say the cell is
like a bakery or a candy factory.
The nucleus contains the directions for all the types of cookies in the DNA molecule. So we can say that:
1. the nucleus is like the company headquarters
2. the DNA is like the recipe kept at headquarters.
3 . the mRNA is like the copy made of the recipe that is sent out to the bakery/ kitchen.
In your groups, develop an analogy for the steps of protein synthesis. You should include the following:
Nucleus, DNA, mRNA, tRNA, amino acids, ribosomes. Also include protein processing from chapter 3 on
cell structure with rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus.
You may use the bakery or candy factory analogy or come up with a different one of your own. It is
important that there is correlation between the analogy chosen and the step-in protein synthesis

DNA is like a blueprint, describes how the protein is supposed to be built just like blueprints tell you how
to make a house The nucleus is like the supervisor’s office. DNA is held in the nucleus. It is where the
blueprints are gone over and where the plants of the blueprint are made. Mutation is like an error in the
blueprint. An error can be missing window and in protein synthesis, the mRNA didn’t copy the
DNA.MRNA is like the supervisor describes the blueprint and discusses plants to the construction crew,
in protein synthesis mRNA copies the DNA. The codon is every3 steps that the supervisor gives, a codon
is every 3 nucleotides that form together, and it can be like the supervisor giving in instructions to the
workers so they can understand what they are doing. The Ribosome is like the construction site, this is
where the building of the final product is happening and where the building of proteins start, amino
acids are like the building supplies. The workers use the supplies to build the bouse and in protein
synthesis, they help build the protein. Peptide bonds are like the workers tool belts, the peptides hold all
the amino acids, and, in this case, the workers belt holds all the tools. Anticodon is like the wood, just
