The Language in Education Policy (LiEP) in many countries, particularly in South Africa, has played a
crucial role in shaping how language learning and teaching occur within schools. The policy's main aim is
to create an educational environment where multilingualism is promoted, particularly by recognizing the
value of local languages in education while also ensuring that students can gain proficiency in additional
languages, such as English, to participate in a globalized world.
The LiEP promotes multilingualism by officially recognizing multiple languages as part of the curriculum,
