Unit 21 – Nutrition for Health and Social Care | Task 3
P4 – Carry out a quantitative analysis of daily intake of nutrients energy
Day 1 (Wednesday)
Reminder – All calorie and nutrition figures are based around a 2000 calorie diet. So, they’re just about
accurate.
My case study is about a woman called Gemma aged 26, she has a weight of…and a height of…. Because
she is a woman, her daily calorie intake is 2000 calories. For this to be an unhealthy diet, she must
slightly go over her daily calorie amount.
For breakfast, Gemma will have a breakfast from McDonalds. She’ll have a double sausage and egg Mc-
Muffin meal with a hash brown. The sandwich alone has 670 calories. The hash brown has 262 calories.
The sandwich nutritional value is listed: The double sausage and egg McMuffin contains 48g of fat,
1100mg of sodium, 28g of protein, 310mg of cholesterol, 3g of sugar, 20% of iron and 15% of calcium.
The hash brown contains 17g of fat, 2.3g of saturated fat, 0.548g of sodium. For her drink, she’ll have an
iced latte. An iced late is around 90 calories. It has 4g of protein, 7g of carbohydrates and 4.5g of total
fat. The total so far in calories is 1,022.
For lunch, Gemma will cook herself a homemade pepperoni pizza. She only has 2 slices. 2 slices of pep-
peroni pizza are 626 calories. The pizza slices have 26g of fat, 56mg do cholesterol, 23% carbs, 26g of
protein, 3.4% vitamin c and 7.g of sugar. With her pizza, she’ll have a glass of lemonade, a lemonade has
99 calories. It has 0.1g of fat, 26g of carbohydrates and 25g of sugars. The total amount of calories for
lunch is 725. With the breakfast included, the total is 1,747.
For snacks in between meals, Gemma can have from one of two options:
Option 1 is having a packet of potato chips. Per serving size, overall a small packet of regular crisps is
around 149 calories. Within the crisps, it contains around 9.5g of fat, 148mg of sodium, 335mg of potas-
sium and 15g of carbohydrates.
Option 2 is having a single chocolate bar. Each serving size has around 235 calories, 117 of it being com-
plete fat. It has 23g of sugar, 1.7% of vitamin A and 3.5g of protein. If she decides to have one of these
snacks in between the day, then her total calorie amount including the chocolate will be 1982 calories. If
she has the crisps instead then it will be 1896 so far.
For dinner, Gemma is going to eat a piece of lasagne. Preparing it from scratch may mean it is healthier,
rather than buying it from the freezer or fridge in a local supermarket. So, she’ll make it at home. A Sin-
gle size of lasagne is around 602 calories. A single serving if lasagne has 32g of fat, 11g of monounsatu-
rated fat, 35g of carbohydrates, 11g of sugar and 41% of calcium. For her drink, she’ll have a glass of wa-
ter. Water has no calories so it’s not being added in the calorie count.
