Deze zeven technieken schatten hoeveel van de variantie (spreiding van de data) in een afhankelijke
variabele Y systematisch (niet-toevallig) samenhangt (covarieert) met de variantie in een
onafhankelijke variabelen X; De technieken nemen aan dat scores op een afhankelijke variabele
voorspeld kunnen worden door:
 X variabelen die zijn gemeten en die als predictor zijn opgenomen in een model waarin zij de
afhankelijke variabele systematisch beïnvloeden.
 Variabelen die niet zijn gemeten en die niet als predictor zijn opgenomen in een model, maar
die de afhankelijke variabele wel systematisch beïnvloeden (ἐ = systematische error/residu
genoemd) .
 Variabelen die we niet hebben gemeten en die de afhankelijke variabele alleen toevallig
beïnvloeden (ook ἐ = random error/residu genoemd)
 Aldus: X  Y  ἐ, oftewel Y = f(X, ἐ)

Voorbeelden technieken:
 One Way Between Subjects Analysis of Variance (ANOVA): Conceptueel model om te
kijken naar de complexiteit van samenhang.
Team waarin iemand werkt (X) organization commitment (Y)
(nominaal/categorisch) (continue schaal: 1= laag, 10= hoog)

 Bivariate Regression Analysis: Conceptueel model is hetzelfde als bij ANOVA. De
uitkomsten zijn dan ook hetzelfde. Bivariate regressie vindt niet vaak plaats.

 Multiple Regression Analysis: Conceptueel model met meerdere onafhankelijke variabele en
één afhankelijke variabele.
