Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal
The term “safe staffing ratios” has been a hot button topic in the healthcare community
for decades, but has recently made national and international headlines as part of the COVID-19
pandemic. The pandemic has not only brought increased scrutiny on an existing problem, it has
also made the problem worse by causing nurses to leave their positions in droves from burnout
and/or for better pay opportunities. Healthcare organizations need to determine ways to recruit
nurses to their facilities and how to effectively use the staff they already have for the best patient
and staff satisfaction. My proposed plan involves the collaboration of HR for the purposes
of recruiting and the nursing staff to implement team nursing as a standard practice. The desired
outcome of my proposal is to increase both staff and patient satisfaction from a safety
standpoint.
Objective
My objective is to present a model of team nursing that can be implemented during times
of low staffing in order to maximize the availability of staff and increase patient satisfaction.
This objective can be aligned with the organizational goal of increased recruitment because if
successful, it will prioritize hiring of nurses to fit into these roles first and increase staff
satisfaction.

1. Will team nursing be successful on every unit in the hospital?
a. Team nursing has the potential to be successful on every unit of the hospital with the
exception of intensive care units where the level of care specific patients need is more
specialized. Nurses need to be readily available to adjust drips, provide care, and react to changes
