Discrimination is a problem we can see anywhere. It can be at school, at a workplace
or even in the streets that you walk in. But, there are certain approaches we can do to lessen
or prevent discrimination. What are those?

1. By actively challenging the unfair discrimination that people have experienced.

Unfair discrimination means being treated unfairly in comparison to somebody else.
It is a type of discrimination that happens wherever we may be. Many people might have
even experienced this at their workplace, school or at a healthcare institute. Experiences
such as unfair treatment due to favouritism in age, gender, race, disability, ethnicity, belief,
culture and many more. Discrimination among these are very serious and unlawful. It may
even also have serious effects on the person financially, mentally, emotionally and
physically. Standing up to discrimination is not an easy thing to do. So, here are some ways
to actively challenging it:


 Identify and Recognise Discrimination

Being able to stand up to discrimination means knowing what it is
and what types are there. We cannot identify someone who is being
discriminated or oppose someone from discriminating if we,
ourselves are ignorant in what we are standing up for. Being
knowledgeable about it means being able to prevent and stand up to
it.




 Speak up

If you are the victim or you see someone being
victimized. You should speak up and never think of
ignoring the situation. This harassment can affect
you more than you ever know so you should take
action and speak up. We are all equal beings
bounded by the law so If being able to talk to the
person oppresing you or someone won’t stop them.
You can talk authorities and there is a law that will
bind them and help you, The Equality Act 2010.
