Discrimination

In the Health and Social care setting, there are a lot of laws
that we must uphold. Laws that help regulate the human rights.
One of these laws is the Equality act of 2010 which prevents
any kind of discrimination to happen in the UK especially in the
health care institution. Discrimination, is the act of treating a
person differently from others and is one of the leading social
problem in the world. Discrimination has gone down as time
passed since this act was enacted but eradicating it completely
is still hard for some may still experience it unknowingly or
directly. With its many forms, one may distinguish if it is
discrimination or not. But what are the forms of Discrimination? Here are some:

1. Direct Discrimination

Direct Discrimination, as it says in its name, is a form
of discrimination shown to someone straightforwardly.
It can be seen and easily be proved by acts of rudeness,
disrespect or even hate. It is commonly shown as a
way of “Bullying” where one is directly abused by
calling names because of a particular trait they see as
‘wrong.’ One example is when you are blind or deaf
and people will make fun of you because of your
disability.

2. Indirect Discrimination

This form of discrimination, as defined by
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk is “the type where when there's a
practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way,
but it has a worse effect on some people than others.” This puts
other people at a disadvantage because of a characteristic they have
that is required by a certain job or institution. This form of
discrimination commonly happens to people with disabilities such
as when they are prevented to do things other people can.
