Een digitaal bedrijf is een bedrijf waarin vrijwel alle belangrijke zakelijke relaties van de
organisatie met klanten, leveranciers en werknemers digitaal worden ingeschakeld en bemiddeld.
Kernbedrijfsprocessen worden tot stand gebracht via digitale netwerken die de hele organisatie
omspannen of meerdere organisaties met elkaar verbinden.
Bedrijfsprocessen verwijzen naar de reeks logisch gerelateerde taken en gedragingen die
organisaties in de loop van de tijd ontwikkelen om specifieke bedrijfsresultaten te produceren en de
unieke manier waarop deze activiteiten zijn georganiseerd en gecoördineerd. Bedrijfsprocessen zijn
een collectie van activiteiten die nodig zijn om een product of dienst te produceren.
Veranderingen in strategie, regels en bedrijfsprocessen vereisen veranderingen in hardware,
software, databases en telecommunicatie. Vaak hangt wat een organisatie zou willen ok af van wat
het systeem toelaat/kan.
, Bedrijven investeren veel in informatiesystemen om zes strategische bedrijfsdoelstellingen te
bereiken:
- Operational excellence --> verbeteren efficientie en productiviteit
- Nieuwe producten, diensten en bedrijfsmodellen --> Een bedrijfsmodel beschrijft hoe een
bedrijf een product of dienst produceert, levert en verkoopt om welvaart/winst te creëren
- Customer en supplier intimacy --> customer intimacy leidt tot terugkomen van klanten en
meer verkopen. Supplier intimacy leidt tot beter input en lagere kosten.
- Verbeterde besluitvorming --> managers kunnen gebruik maken van real-time data,
waardoor het besluitvormingsproces van managers verbeterd (zijn beter geïnformeerd).
- Concurrentievoordeel--> door voorsprong op concurrenten op basis van één 1 van de drie
eerst hierboven genoemde punten.
- Survival/continuïteit --> informatiesystemen zijn nodig voor het drijven van de
onderneming.
