Task 1
3 Types of Muscle
The three different type of muscles in the body consist of smooth muscle, cardiac muscle
and skeletal muscle.
Cardiac
The cardiac muscle is found within the walls of the heart. Its functions are to: pump blood
throughout the body as well as making up the bulk of the heart’s mass. This muscle is also
involuntary meaning we don’t need to use our conscious control for the heart to beat. It is
also different to the smooth and skeletal muscles as they don’t fatigue.
Skeletal
The skeletal muscles in the body help to provide movement, to maintain posture, stabilise
joints and generate heat to the body. They are attached by tendons to our skeleton on
rough patches of bone. It also regulates body temperature when you are moving. The
skeletal muscles can be found in places in the body such as: Biceps, triceps, quadriceps, etc.
Skeletal muscles also striative tissue (meaning that it would look striped of you looked at
these muscles through a microscope).
Smooth
Smooth muscles are found in the walls of the hollow organs, an example could be your
intestines and your stomach as well as in your blood vessels and your bladder. Smooth
muscles are also involuntary because they don’t need your conscious control. The main
function of the smooth muscles is to help digestion.

force. An example of this

curl, as when you do a bicep
curl, as you lower your arm it
straightens causing an
eccentric contraction. An
eccentric contraction also
gets the best out of the exercise because when you do a bicep curl, if you lower it slowly it is
