2. Period of performed work: I’ve been working as a social educator at the Fondation Echaud
since May 2011. I first worked in the residential group Samoa from May 2011 until December
2014. Then I became a fixed substitute in the institution, working in the different residential
groups from January 2015 until now.
3. Worked hours: On average I worked 30 hours a week from May 2011 until December
2014, which corresponds to a 70% job. From January 2015 until now I’ve generally worked
50% on an annual basis.
4. Job description
The Fondation Echaud homes people with multiple disabilities, who present both physical,
mental and sensorial disorders.
Organogram
In the orange part you can find the position of my function within the organization: Above is
the director in blue (‘directeur de la fondation’), under him is the sub-director in orange
(‘directeur adjointe responsable de l’internat’), under him are the different pool managers
(‘responsables de pools’) and under them are the different residential groups and the
supervisors of these groups (from Tenerife down to Samoa). The social educator is part of one
of the different residential groups.

, Function name: Social Educator
Main purpose of the function:
- To daily accompany residents, both individually and collectively, in order to give them a
quality of life. The social educator answers to the identified fundamental needs of the
residents and takes into account the person as a whole, recognising the resources and
limitations of each person.
Description of the tasks:
- The daily care of the residents.
- Work in an educative team, composed of different professionals.
- Provide delegated medical-technical care related to the level of study and training, under the
responsibility of the referring nurse.
- Collaborate with the health department, therapists, workshops and other services of the
institution and collaborate with specialist outside the institution, such as a psychiatrist,
neurologist or therapist.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and monitor educational projects and
therapeutic programs for residents.
- Organize recreation, trips, camps and in-and outdoors activities with and for residents.
- Participate in educational meetings including inter-sector meetings.
- Collaborate and maintain contact with families and legal representatives.
- Perform administrative tasks related to the residents and the educational team.
- Manage the group’s budget for small acquisitions and leisure.
Internal and external contacts:
The internal contacts of the social educator are the following:
- Direction and management: the purpose of the contact is to receive the necessary guidance
and supervision from them. In situations where the social educator doesn’t find a solution by
himself, he asks his superior in the hierarchy of the institution for help. The direction and
management supervise the work of the educator both directly and indirectly and undertake
action if necessary.
- Supporting services: secretary, accountant, administrative assistant, computer technical
service, maintenance and kitchen. The money of the residents and the money of the group is
given and controlled by the accountant. Each residential group deals with their own budget for
leisure and smaller acquisitions and with the personal budget of the residents, but the
accountant controls it. The computer technical service is contacted for any questions or
problems with the computers, phones and Internet of the institution. The maintenance is
contacted in case of problems with the different installations. The social workers of each
group order the food for the residents and themselves from the kitchen of the institution
through a computer system. They also order on a weekly basis the supply of breakfast
ingredients and supplementary provisions.
- Residential groups: there are seven residential groups in the institution. We can help each
other when needed, like supervising residents of another group when that group is in a
meeting. The residents and workers of the different groups also can share different moments
together for social purpose.
- Medical service; therapies (physiotherapy and occupational therapy). The medical service
supervises all medical care done by the social educators on the group. The educators are
trained for certain medical handling by the medical service. The educators contact the medical
