• You must also read the following articles:
‘The Lexis of South African English: Reflections of a Multilingual Society’ by Penny Silva
and
‘The Use of Slang by Black Youth in Gauteng’ by Bembe and Beukes
• Answer all questions in full sentences.
• Provide evidence and examples from the Moodle site and the articles to motivate

The development of personal identity heavily depends on language particularly within societies
which use multiple languages. South Africans develop their self-identification by using both
indigenous languages and English as well as Afrikaans according to their social environments
