Medscape was founded in 1995 by Peter Frishauf. The original purpose of Medscape was
to provide medical information at no cost to medical professionals (Frishauf, 2005). Medscape
merged with MedicaLogic, Inc in 2000 and within less than two years MedicaLogic filed
bankruptcy and the company was sold to WebMD in 2001(Frishauf, 2005). WebMD then
created and launched the Medscape app for mobile devices in 2011 (Frishauf, 2005).
Endorsement
Medscape is endorsed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Medscape is
approved by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and
Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), just to name a few (WebMD, LLC.,
2023).
Operation
Medscape is available for both mobile and web-based applications (WebMD, LLC.,
2023). Both the website and mobile app are suitable because they provide access in any setting
for healthcare professionals.
