Important Institution of Physical Education
Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala (NSNIS):-Third Asian games were held in Tokyo in
1958. Where India gave a very poor performance specially in hockey. In view of the poor show given
by the Indian teams, govt. of India set up a Adhoc inquiry committee in 1958 to study the cause of low
standard in sports. This committee recommended the national institute of sports and consequently on
the proposal of All India council of Sports. Govt. of India established NIS in march 1961. Dr. A.L
shreemalli inaugurated this institute on May 7,1961 at Patiala. On Jan 23,1973 it was renamed NSNIS.
One year diploma was started in various sports. A six month condensed diploma course, six week
certificate course in sports coaching. A two years post graduate master’s course (MS) was also
introduced July 1979. A post graduate diploma course in sports medicine was also introduced in
NSNIS Patiala.
Aim & objectives of NSNIS:-
To prepare coaches for specific training of sports.
To raises the technical standard of coaches.
To make available the latest knowledge in the field of sports.
Help in searching the talented sportsperson.
To organized competitions and seminars in the field of sports.
To help Nehru Yuva Kendra for promotion of sports.
To organize the orientation course for teacher of physical education.
To help the research work in the field of sports.
To get published the various magazines for promotion of sports.
To provide the technical knowledge to industrialist who involved in making sports equipments.
Courses of NSNIS:- master degree in sports coaching, post graduate diploma in sports medicine,
diploma in sports coaching, refresher courses, certificate courses in sports coaching.
Laxmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior (LNUPE):- LNUPE was
established by ministry of education and culture, govt. of India as LNCPE (Laxmibai national
college of physical education) on August 17, 1957. This college started as an affiliated college of
the Vikram University, Ujjain. in 1964 it was affiliated to Jiwaji University, Gwalior. For its unique
status and further development it was given the status of autonomous college in 1982. For its
unique educational services in the field of physical education, sports and research, the govt. of
