Competition & Tournaments
Competition & Tournaments:- A tournament is planned scheduled where individual/teams
participate and contest a particular activity and they earn rank/positions on the basis of their
performance. A tournament is competition held among various teams in a particular activity
according to a fix schedule where a winner is decided. Tournament provides an opportunity to
people to mix up with others and understand their feeling, customs and their culture. Tournaments
are helpful in the harmonious development of participant.
Importance of the Tournament:-
Development of sports skill:- The maximum number of participation in tournaments not only
develop technical skill of the spots but tactical skill also.
Propaganda of sports:- Helpful in publicizing the sports.
Helpful in selection of players.
Development of national & international integration.
Development of social quality such as tolerance, sympathy, co-operation, brotherhood etc.

Types of Tournament:- There are mainly four types of tournaments.
1. Knock-out/elimination
2. League/round robin
3. Combination
4. Challenge
Knock-Out/Elimination Tournament:- In this type of tournament, a team which once defeated it is
said to be out of the tournament which means it does not get another chance. There are four types
of knock-out tournament.
1. Single knock-out.
2. Double knock-out.
3. Consolation.
4. Beganal/wild.
Single Knock-out :- when a player/team suffers defeat then that player/team immediately out from
the tournament.
Double Knock-out:- in this everyone gets a second chance to play. Losers of winner to play again
before eliminated.

, Consolation:- it is just like as a double knock-out tournament. It depends solely on organizer whether
they organize or not. There are two type of consolation tournament.
1. Type 1
2. Type 2
Type 1:- only first round losing teams gets second chance to play.
Type 2:- all losing team in each round will play again till winner is decided.

Beganall wild tournament:- this tournament can truly for the first three places.
For 1st place:- regular knock-out winner.
For 2nd place:- all the team defeated by first place winner except defeated in the final will play again
and winner will face the defeated team in the final of regular knock out & winner got 2nd place.
For 3rd place:- all the teams defeated by the runner up team of the regular knock-out will play again and
winner will play with loser of the final of IInd place.
For 1st place for 2nd place for 3rd place

Merits of knock-out tournament:-
Less expensive
Less time is required
More interested
Helpful in enhancing standard of sports because each team tries to present the best performance
to avoid the defeat.
Minimum number of officials is required in organizing such type of tournament.
Demerits of knock-out tournament:-
There may chance of elimination of good team in first round.
The fixture is drawn by lots & possibility of the strong team being match in early round.
Chance to weak team to enter in the final.
League/round robin tournament: - in this type of tournament every team/player play once with every
other team/player. There are two type of league tournament:-
