- Psychiatrische aandoeningen kunnen aanleiding geven tot allerlei somatisch complicaties
1. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de directe lichamelijke gevolgen bij patiënten met een
paranoïde psychose die voeding en vocht weigeren of aan de gezondheidsschade bij
verslavingsproblematiek
- Psychisch functioneren en lichamelijke conditie zijn nauw met elkaar verwerven. Deze
stelling is evident maar tegelijk complex. De kwestie hangt in de eerste plaats samen met de
vooronderstelling dat er een onderscheid mogelijk is tussen psychisch en lichamelijk.
Hierover is de filosofische discussie nog altijd niet gesloten, maar in de praktijk wordt
algemeen gesteld dat de psychische en lichamelijke conditie elkaar wederzijds beïnvloeden.
In de moderne gezondheidszorg spreken we ook over ‘psychiatrische en somatische
comorbiditeit’. Hierbij verwijst de term comorbiditeit naar het voorkomen van een of meer
psychiatrische of somatische aandoeningen naast de bestudeerde somatische of
psychiatrische indexaandoening. Dit zegt overigens niet over de relatie tussen de
aandoeningen.
- Farmacokinetiek: betreft de 4 fasen in het lichamelijk verwerkingsproces van een medicijn,
vanaf het moment van inname tot aan het moment van uitscheiding uit het lichaam

- Hypothyreoïdie: is een stoornis waarbij de schildklier onvoldoende schildklierhormonen
produceert
- Somatisatie: er is een neiging van een patiënt om zich uit te drukken in lichamelijke
symptomen
- Functionele klachten: wordt vaak gebruikt om aan te geven dat er naar de mening van de
arts geen sprake is van een somatische oorzaak voor de klacht (meestal dus psychisch)
- Functionele syndromen: zijn omschreven clusters van onverklaarde lichamelijke klachten
- Onverklaarde lichamelijke klachten: er is geen lichamelijke oorzaak voor de klacht gevonden
- Somatisch-symptoomstoornis en verwante stoornissen volgens DSM-5
