b) Pick 5 of the issues listed above, one from each heading and briefly explain, in the form of
a memo or email to the board of directors, what actions the company should take to
minimise any adverse effect.
Dear Board of Directors,
I have a few issues I would like to go over with you and have some actions in mind that’ll
help minimise the effect of these.
Economic: In the current situation we can see that the pound is very strong meaning that
currently our imports are costing more than usual. A simple way of overcoming this would
be to buy a large bulk order of the parts we need. By doing this we should get a discount
due to the capacity of the order meaning we may actually save money. Due to the bulk
buying we may also be able to increase production meaning increased revenue.
UK Political & European Union: With the potential shutting of a few borders due to COVID-
19 we may have issues on imports and exports which could see a decrease in revenue but
also customer satisfaction. It is important that we keep in touch with our customers
ensuring that they are aware of what is happening in this situation, giving them regular
updates.
Laws and Regulations: As the national minimum wage is ever-growing and continues to rise
yearly we need to plan and forecast for this. Failure to pay our staff the national minimum
wage will cause our employees to sue us which could be extremely detrimental to the
business.
Social & Technological Trends: Increase in smart phone use may become an issue as more
and more people are becoming hooked to their phones. To reduce this from becoming a
major issue we should have a meeting with all staff explaining that phones must not be used
on shop floor and only to be used whilst on break. If they have an emergency they can have
the opportunity to make a call.
Environmental: With the government setting a target that all cars are to be electric by 2040
we may have to look to accommodate our carpark with charging stations throughout.
