UNIT 2: Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social care
D1. Evaluate the success of a recent initiative in promoting anti-discriminatory
practice.
Initiatives have been done by the government to control discriminatory practices and
hopefully later on, completely eradicate it. Because of previous crimes, events and problems
that has discriminatory practice as its main reason for these kind of things to occur, the
government has made initiatives stricter and clear as to what the standards and regulations
they have and with this task, I will be evaluating the success of those initiative in promoting
anti discriminatory practices.
One initiative is the Care Act 2014, this Care Act has been
implemented on the year 2015 and so far its standards and
regulations as to how the assessments should be taken for
individuals has been fair and equal to all individuals no
matter what race, age, gender, beliefs, religions etc. that they
have. It also promoted anti discriminatory practice by
providing assessments that can be available and suitable for
all including those who are disabled and bedridden.
Not only that, the Care Act also has eligibility criterias that are reasonable and just for each
assessment done so that people who have the most concerning situation can be given
priority and those who can handle somehow will still be given some support but not much,
unlike those who are really in need. In a way, people who are subjected to little support may
find it unfair but, in my point of view, it is only right that the ones who needs full support will
be prioritized rather than those who can still manage a little because the government can
only do so much and such people who needs full support from the government could be
individuals who are disabled or elderly that are bedridden, does not have work and alone in
life.
Furthermore, since the care act has been placed, there are a
lot positive promotion happening for individuals. This is done
through the assessments the local authorities perform
because with the use of this, the government is able to see
how many people in each council needs support, are
disabled and of old age, they then are also able to evaluate
how the eligibility criteria will be helpful for these individuals
and how many people are in need of full or partial support
from the government. Having said that, being able to identify
these and support the individuals promote them positively
through inclusion, equality and diversity because it allows any individual to be seen,
assessed and heard by the government equally, no matter their differences or situation in
life. The care act also promoted the importance of well being for everyone by helping those
who are in need to achieve it by providing support may it be partial or full.
In addition to that, it also promoted anti discriminatory practice by encouraging awareness
and good practice on equality and diversity by having eligibility criterias explained on each
assessments performed. Through this, every individual is able to identify and know what
