Physical and technological resources
Physical resources - Tesco
‘’Every business needs resources, whether it's people, money, suppliers, or time.
The physical resources include tangible items that are necessary and available
for a business to function. These are items that take space, have a value, and
are used in the operation of the company.’’ Businesses need physical resources
to be able to operate correctly and efficiently. Physical resources are all the
tangible things that a business needs, such as materials, equipment, buildings
etc.
Plant and machinery
Businesses need machinery to be able to operate effectively, businesses that
have their own production departments will need machinery and other tools
for the work that they carry out as producing products without machinery and
with just workers will not be enough, the Businesses also need machinery
when creating new buildings, such as diggers etc. Most business has
warehouses where they keep all the stock, these building will also need
machines operated by the workers to move the stock and objects around.
Tesco has their own production department where they need much different
machinery to be able to produce their own branded products to assist the
production assistants. By using machinery, it helps Tesco to get the work done
more quickly and efficiently.
Equipment and ICT
Businesses need different equipment to be able to operate properly and get
work done, such as office equipment, tools etc. Different types of business may
need different equipment; some businesses rely on ICT equipment and will not
be able to operate without them such as call centre. Having the right
equipment and ICT system will help businesses increase efficiency and
accuracy. Tesco use equipment such as computer system where they can
record customers’ information that purchases products from their stores. The
finance department at Tesco may use commuter to record data such as sales
numbers and other financial details of the business, this helps them to
calculate, set targets and get work done much faster. Tesco also needs ICT for
their online website that customers use to shop.
