Methodology of research
In this assignment will explain the methods that are used for research as well as beginning
to plan a research on a complex current issue affecting the travel and tourism sector. The
first task will include examples of different types of research with their advantages and
disadvantages while also comparing them to each other. In task two, I will begin my plan
surrounding the issue that Thomas cook is facing while also providing different examples of
what are the opinions of other people found from online sources.
What is research?
Research is the process, which we can carry out in order to get the information to our
question or problem. There are different types of research, which includes primary,
secondary, qualitative and quantitative.

which would delay the time taken to use the research for the problem or question asked in
the first place.
Secondary
Secondary research requires already existing source providing the information, this can be in
form of a blog or a news article such as the Travel weekly, which provides the latest news
occurring in the tourism industry. An example of a secondary piece of research could be
using an article to find out opinions of people and use their data to conclude your own
research.
Advantage –a benefit of using this type of research is that it saves time as the data and
information has been already completed which could include statistics or opinions, and
available to anyone who wants to use them. This means that the people who needs the
information would not need to go through the process of collecting it themselves.
Disadvantage –the information cannot always be reliable as on some online websites it is
very easy to put up information that may not necessarily be right. An example of this could
be Wikipedia where it is accessible to everyone and anyone can change the information,
which could mean that some people may have been wrong about what they have, wrote as
they could have been biased or given the wrong information.
