In this assignment I will be reporting my findings and conclusions from my
research project on ADHD. I will be including rationale that I have included
in my P4. I will also discuss secondary research and my aim and
hypothesis that I explained in P4. I will discuss my methodology and the
results I got from my research project.
Rationale. I decided on this topic as during one of my placements in a
primary school there was a child who had ADHD. I knew what the basics of
it was but I did not really know that much of it into detail. The child would
get int a bit of trouble during class time as he would not concentrate on
what was being done and his behaviour was hard to control. Due to this I
decided to try and research it a bit further to see more in-depth of this
disorder and try to get a better understanding of it. After researching I
decided I would get some opinions on the disorder as now I had a better
understanding of the basics of it. I wanted to get a wider scope on the
publics knowledge and understandings of it. I have decided to use
questionnaires as these are more economical. In addition to this,
questionnaires are also more practical and efficient as they are easy to
understand and answer and are less time consuming.
Secondary research: I have tried to find the most reliable sources that I
could. This is to ensure the information I use in my research is not false
information. Being able to recall on the situation in my work experience in
a primary school setting has allowed me to include information on an
observation of an individual with ADHD. This gives my first-hand
information on how an individual acts and reacts in everyday situations,
adding to my research. Another topic is ethical considerations. During my
research I need to be mindful of this as many individuals may get affected
or offended by the research. An example of this may be if an individual
has had a past with being affected by ADHD and they do not want to
discuss the topic. This would be something I would need to deal with.
In addition to the use of questionnaires I also used secondary methods of
research including websites and published journals to back up my findings
to be more reputable and valid. The secondary methods that I used in my

These secondary sources allowed me to research knowledge on ADHD.
This allowed me to gain more knowledge to help me with my
questionnaires so I could create questions that I knew the answer to. It
also helped me with making reasonable questions that would be easy
enough for individuals answering my questionnaire to answer.
Aim and Hypothesis: The aim of my research was to learn the general
public’s opinions towards the disorder ADHD. I am choosing this disorder
as I have carried out work on it in other modules. In order to carry out this
piece of research I would need to collect data from questionnaires that I
will issue around my fellow students at Northern regional college. I will
also issue questionnaires in my work at Glenabbey Manor. I will reach all
ages as I want to be able to reflect the general public and discover what
they believe rather than what a small minority. My hypothesis for this
research is that the general public are aware of what ADHS is but they do
not fully understand the aspects of it.
Methodology-
Design: I chose a questionnaire as they provide a relatively cheap, quick
and efficient way of obtaining large amounts of information from a large
sample of people. They are effective as I was able to collect my data
relatively quickly as I did not need to be present whenever the
questionnaires were completed. I chose this over interviewing as they can
be ineffective. They are ineffective as conducting interview studies can
be very costly as well as very time-consuming. They are also ineffective as
there is a lack of accessibility to respondents (unlike conducting mailed
questionnaire study) since the respondents can be in around any corner of
the world or country.
Subjects: My Subjects were a wide range of individuals. Many of them
were my classmates and tutors and a couple others were family members.
70% of the subjects were female and 30% were male. I also tried to have
a wide range of ages in my subjects. 40% of them were between the ages
of 10-18 years old. 30% of the subjects were between the age of 25-35.
10% 35-45 years old and 20% were 45 years old +. I believed that this
was a good range of subjects to use as there was a good wide range of
ages an there was also a mixed range of male and female.
Apparatus: To carry out my research I had to have access to a computer
and a printer as well as paper. This is all I needed for my research project
as this allowed my access to all of my secondary sources as well as access
to the proper programmes to create a questionnaire to hand out to my
subjects.
Procedure: I carried out over 70% of my research on a Friday afternoon
during my college classes. I handed out my questionnaires to 10 subjects
(8 classmates and 2 tutors). I then went home and gave a questionnaire
