theory
Theory: “ A set of systematic, informed hunches about the way things work” Burgoon

“Systematic” —> de relaties tussen de ideeën. Hoe preciseer, hoe beter.

“Hunches” —> Theorie vormt zich gaande weg, het is nu nog niet duidelijk. Een theorie
bevat meerdere hunches.

“Informed hunches” —> Rekening houdend met wat al bekend is

3 visuele voorstellingen van wetenschappelijke theorie:
1. Netten: Karl popper liet ziet een theorie als een net die de werkelijkheid vangt

2. Lens: Theorie wordt gezien als een weerspiegeling van de werkelijkheid; de
lens focust zich op een klein deel van de werkelijkheid

3. Kaart: Theorieën leiden de weg in onbekende gebieden, de werkelijkheid wordt
vereenvoudigd door bepaalde aspecten te benadrukken


Communicatie is een relatie proces, waarbij boodschappen gemaakt, gecreëerd en
geïnterpreteerd worden. De boodschap moet een reactie uitlokken/veroorzaken.


5 elementen van communicatie:
1. Bericht: every kind of text

2. Ontstaan: tekst wordt door de communicator gemaakt, bedacht, gefabriceerd,
gevormd, uitgekozen of overgenomen

3. Interpretatie: berichten interpreteren zichzelf niet. Woorden betekenen niets,
personen betekenen iets. Woorden zijn polysemic —> woorden en tekens
kunnen op meerdere manieren worden geïnterpreteerd.

4. Relatieproces: communicatie vindt plaats tussen twee of meer personen —>
er ontstaat een relatie

5. Uitlokken/veroorzaken van een reactie: effect van een tekst als het
aangekomen is bij de ontvanger.
