Hoofdstuk 1 Politiek en politieke wetenschap
Politiek: verschillende definities, zoals van Easton: De gezaghebbende toedeling van
waarden. In het boek: Politiek is alles wat te maken heeft met het besturen van een
samenleving.
Variaties in de politiek zijn:
- samenleving (territorium)
- Inhoud en reikwijdte: in hoeverre bemoeit de overheid zich met ons
(betutteling).
- Vormen en structuren: verschillende regimes, zoals democratische of autoritaire
regimes. Ook (de)centralisatie, unitaire (centraal) of federale (decentraal) staten.
Ook instellingen en procedures spelen een rol, b.v. hoe verlopen de verkiezingen?
Hoofdstuk 2 Staat en macht
De staat legt bindende regels op die dus voor iedereen gelden. Om deze bindende regels
te handhaven heeft de staat veel machtsmiddelen, geweldsmonopolie.
Macht: De mogelijkheid van A om te zeggen dat B een handeling stelt die B anders niet
zou doen. Weber onderscheid macht en gezag (dat weten we wel).
Drie dimensies van macht:
- Beslissen en bevelen
- Agendasetting: dwingen dat iets op de publieke agenda komt
- Ideologische hegemonie: iets of iemand (culturele hegemonie, gevestigde orde)
dat bepaalt wat legitiem is.
