- Verklaren waar criminaliteit vandaan komt (individueel niveau; vanuit de persoon)

voorspellen? (dit is heel lastig)
- Behandeling van verdachten/daders moet gericht zijn op het voorkomen van een
nieuw feit; psychologische/psychiatrische interventies
Wat leren we uit criminologische verklaringen?
Forensische psychiatrie wordt beïnvloed door allerlei andere (deel)wetenschappen.
Criminologie is een typische wetenschap die zich richt op het verklaren van gedrag, maar
dan op groepsniveau. Elke verklaring vanuit de criminologie heeft aspecten van individueel
niveau. Er worden vandaag 5 theorieën behandeld:
1. Containment theorie
2. Bindingstheorie
3. Rationele keuze theorie
4. Strain theorie
5. Labelingtheorie
Containment theorie (reckless)
- Theorie die onderandere is geschreven in de The crime problem (1961).
- Innerlijke containment: zelfconcept (jezelf zien als niet-crimineel; ben je (on)tevreden
over jezelf?), doelgericht gedrag (richten op acceptabele en realistische doelen),
frustratietolerantie (kun je frustraties beheersen?), normgerichtheid (leef je volgens de
normen van de samenleving; ben je nuttig voor de samenleving?).
Les: behandeling richten op realistische doelen die de niet-criminele identiteit
ondersteunen.
Meneer Reckless heeft het dus over het zelfconcept.
Bindingstheorie (Hirschi)
- Geschreven in het boek: Causes of delinquency (1969).
- Wat mensen weerhoudt van of beperkt in de keuze voor criminaliteit zijn bindingen met
de samenleving (gezin, werk, vereniging): attachment, commitment, involvement en
belief.
Mensen die geen binding hebben met de samenleving, hebben minder te verliezen. Bij
het plegen van een delict zouden deze structuren dus niet onder druk kunnen komen te
staan.
Les: behandeling niet alleen richten op gevoelens/cognities/gedrag van de delinquent zelf,
maar ook op versterken van binding met de samenleving.
Rationele keuze theorie (Becker)
- Staat ondermeer beschreven in: Accounting for tastes (1969).
