UNIT 14: SPECALIST TOURISM
P1: Describe the types and providers of specialist tourism
In this assignment I will be describing the different types of specialist tourism and giving an
example of a provider that provides these specific holidays.
Specialist tourism is a tourism with a purpose. That brings excitement to one’s specific
needs. Specialist tourism is classified into many categories such as- sports tourism, health
tourism, adventure tourism, nature tourism, ecotourism, cultural tourism, special interest,
dark tourism or volunteering and many more.
SPORT TOURISM
It is a specific travel outside of the usual environment for either passive or active
involvement in competitive sport. Sport tourism is a fast-growing sector of the global travel
industry and equates to $7.68 billion. While sports tourism has not always been extremely
popular, during the recent decade the amount of people attending out of area sporting
events has drastically increased. People are now traveling far and wide just to attend their
favourite events.
A provider that provides sports tourism is a company SPORTS TOURS INTERNATIONAL, they
provide their customers with luxury holidays and tours.
HEALTH TOURISM
It is the umbrella term for travelling for the purpose of receiving medical treatment or
improving health or fitness, it can be split into two subcategories: medical tourism and
wellness tourism. Traveling for health and wellness is one of the most important tourist
patterns of economic returns generated by the tourism industry, tourist destinations and
the health sector.
A provider that provides sports tourism is a company MEDICAL TOURISM COPORATION, US.
They connect their customers to affordable, comfortable and cost-effective trip planning,
journey, stay, tourist experience & recuperation.
ADVENTURE TOURISM
Adventure tourism gains much of its excitement by allowing its participants to step outside
of their comfort zone. This may be from experiencing culture shock or through the
performance of acts that require significant effort and involve some degree of risk and/or
physical danger. This may include activities such as mountaineering, trekking, bungee
jumping, mountain biking, rafting, zip- lining, paragliding, and Rock climbing.
An example of a provider that provides adventure tourism is G ADEVNTURES OPEN UP THE
WORLD, offering many unique and affordable trips and more than 1200 unique itineraries to
all seven continents.
